New Watercolor-Ink Illustrations

It's been I while since I created my last Nature-Mandala-Pattern illustration...I was craving to do some white ink details too...I wanted to paint...

While I was doing a commissioned work these new illustrations were born and I'm happy the way they turned out.

Not very inspired to write...

  1. Hi Maria, ever since encountering your pebble mandalas a few days ago, I have been obsessed with creating some myself! I have tried with my tiniest brush and white acrylic paint and gotten unspectacular results. I saw your recommendations for - Black Faber Castell Pitt artist pen and Staedtler 0.4 technical pen with white Staedtler ink. I have never used any kind of technical or artist pen before. Do you still recommend these? What should I get to start with?
Thank you, and your art is so very lovely and utterly inspiring.

    1. Hi Anat and Erez do Australia, I don't use the technical pen anymore, to lazy to take proper care or it. Now I prefer a dip pen with a Hunt 512 nib and white acrylic ink Dr. Ph. Martin's Bombay ink or FW Daler-Rowney. Here's the link where I show those supplies http://www.magamerlina.com/2012/02/two-painted-pebbles.html
I still use the black Faber-Castell Pitt pens for the white pebbles.
Thank you very much for your nice words about my work.

  5. Everyone thinking of having a go should take the plunge. I've found it so hard to stop which is why this is me just going to bed now at 1.56pm. Honestly your talent and willingness to share so that others can get the same joy from creating these designs is beautiful. I think I have worn my first nib out already. Do you find they wear easily when working on pebbles or am I being too heavy handed? ;-) I'm going to order some more nibs tomorrow. One more quick question if I may? How do you clean your dip pens. I'm finding the ink is drying on the nib ultra quickly and water doesn't get it all off. I think I'm a messy crafter! :-) x

    2. I know exactly how you feel Debs and I think is great. I've had the same nibs since I started using them for my pebbles more than two years ago, they are a little bit split and worn but I still use them. I keep cleaning them, when I'm using them, with a soft cloth and water, I try not to let the ink dry on them and if so I use my nails or an old curette to scrub the ink out.
